There should be enough people on shift for me to take some time off in February, so it looks like I might be going to Vancouver and Whistler. A family member has offered a place to stay, now it’s just debating: using four of the eight days to drive, spend $300 on gas, but having a car, or paying $500 to fly, and then pay to rent a car for the days I get out of the city? Right now, flying is sounding like the best bet.

Anyway, all this is up in the air, so who knows! $300 for two days of skiing sounds not great, especially if I have to rent gear.

What good stuff is there to do in the Vancouver area?

Granville Island & Gastown are the two places to visit in the City of Vancouver itself. Granville island during the day, Gastown at night.

Let me know if you want to meet or need pick up at the airport or anything like that, I’d be more than happy to assist.

Good to know.

And an Oppo meet would absolutely be in the cards.

Cool! We usually do our meets at either of those places. Both artsy and unique!

Pfffttt, drive! Road trip! :D

In seriousness, a road trip across Canada is something I would love to do someday....preferably in something ridiculous, like in the FIAT 126p I will someday import...

That’s part of the reason why I want to do it, but also having time constraints. Theoretically, I could leave the Sunday at the end of my shift, get there Monday, and then have five days to go around Vancouver, ski for a day, and start my drive back the following Sunday. Doable, but it’s a lot of driving for a short amount of time.

You could make the drive part of the trip.. any way to circle it? Come in from Edmonton and then back to Calgary?

Feb usually still has snow and cold, but it can also be glorious and sunny too..

If I had two weeks off, I’d be game. But I only have one week, so...

Fly. Roadtrips are great but I think you're cutting it close on time.

+1 this. Gastown is just damn cool, and granville island is chock full of unique little stores, and great eats. Also, just on the downtown side of the bridge (under/ beside) is a great little dirt jump park should you bring your bike. If your planning on the winter sports, the only thing better than Whistler is Blackcomb! Also, if you drive, make a day to ski at Kicking Horse in Golden, one of the best ski hills in all of north america. Narrow, high alpine chutes right off the gondola!

Would be a fun trip, I’m sure, but yeah...not a lot of downtime for you to recharge in there with all the driving!
